The most affordable registry event in the Northeast

The Swingin’ into Spring workshops weekend started 30 years ago (1995) as a workshop weekend without competitions. In 2008 We joined the World Swing Dance Council and became a registry event. Until the 2020 Covid shutdown, the event was held at the Hartford Hilton Hotel, as most events have been over time

Unfortunately, The Hartford/Springfield area lost over 2,000 hotel rooms due to the shutdown, repurposed as assisted living centers, apartments, and other uses.

Last year, 2024 We held the evet at the Polish Home, 9 First ST Windsor Locks, Ct. We learned a lot last year, and have made some adjustments.

Back to basics – For 2025 we have made a few changes to the event

1) All competitions, preliminaries & finals will be held on 1 day … Saturday May 3rd, this way, competitors do not have to incur a hotel bill if you just want to come down for the day, take some workshops and compete.
2) New Scoring & Registration systems put in place to avoid the “Glitches” delt with last year.
3) Modified the 3-day workshop schedule to accommodate Saturday Competitions.
4) If you still have to ask, the event is degendered. You may compete in multiple divisions as leader and follower if you wish.

For the future, if this format is a success, I will keep the more affordable option of a non-hotel event. If feedback leans more towards the hotel option, I will make the rounds again this May/June to see if the hotels are more inclined to negotiate. One did contact me a month ago, so maybe the landscape has changed in our favor.
